Used Notebooks
Notebooks are mobile computers that are easy to transport and they are complete with a flat screen and attached keyboard. Notebooks are typically run by a battery and come equipped with a LCD (liquid crystal display) screen. Notebooks are favored by many different people in a wide variety of occupations. Notebooks have excellent battery backup, making them convenient for use when you don't have access to a power outlet. In addition to running on battery, notebooks also run on an external adapter that easily plugs into any outlet. The popularity of notebooks can be attributed to their portability due to their light weight. The average notebook ranges in weight from 2 to 20 pounds.
Before You Buy
Before you make the decision to purchase a notebook, you should determine your budget. If you don't have much to spend on a notebook, consider purchasing a quality used notebook. Deciding what type of notebook to buy isn't an easy task, and that task gets more difficult when you decide to buy used. Research the different brands available as well as what features you require. If you use your notebook to make music you will require a faster notebook than if you simply use it for papers and reports.
Although speed is a major consideration when buying a new or used notebook, a more important factor is memory. An important feature is the random access memory (RAM), which lets you know how much memory a notebook contains. Keep in mind that the amount of memory you need depends on your purpose for purchasing the notebook. For work and school, a higher memory is recommended although in general it's not a bad idea to buy a notebook that can store plenty of data.
Important tips before you buy:
Research all brands to determine which is best for you. Search online and check technological publications to find the best ranked notebooks.
Ensure that the warranty covers repairs. If your notebook doesn't come with an extended warranty, purchase a special plan that will repair your notebook due to technical errors or other damage.
Make sure your battery life is at least 4 hours on a brand new notebook, and no less than 3 for a used notebook. As your battery life decreases, you will have less flexibility in working on your notebook away from a power source.
Don't purchase a new or used notebook older than 2 years. New models hit the market constantly and older notebooks will be more difficult to repair and parts will be near impossible to find.
Determine if the software included with your notebook is the most updated versions. Old software may have compatibility problems on newer notebooks.
Check the speed of the notebook in which you want to purchase. If possible turn on the notebook to see how long it takes to start up.
Don't let size determine what notebook your purchase. Unless you have special requirements such as vision problems, the size of your notebook is irrelevant.
Determine what accessories you need for your notebook. A common accessory for notebook owners is a notebook carrier for easy transport.
